Hello! My name is Stephanie Harper & I am the Art Teacher here at LRUHS.

About Me:

I am so glad to be a part of the LRUHS community, working with staff and students to create an exciting learning experience for everyone.

I was born in Newport, VT and consider myself to be a true "Vermonter."  I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be an art teacher.  I was constantly creating and showing others how to do new things.

After graduating from Lake Region in 2004, I continued my education at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Down south I worked at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum & at several of the Horry County Schools doing internships & student/substitute teaching.  Following 5 years of missing the beautiful seasons and my family, I decided to move back up north towards my roots.  I worked as an After School Program Coordinator at Missisquoi Valley Union H.S. in Swanton, VT before I started teaching here at Lake Region.

This is my 12th year at Lake Region and each year is better than the last.  Within these years, I have established a fun and enriching curriculum for students to grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, and artistically.  It has been my goal to help students to lose their fear of being wrong, to become creative thinkers, experimenters, problem solvers, and to be self-motivated and self-critical of their work.  In each of my classes students are introduced to the elements and principles of design, art history, critiques, and vocabulary as well as various art mediums and techniques.  Students also develop their own digital art portfolios as a way to share their work.  My classes are focused on my students' interests and skills!  Together, we continue to fill our school and our community with color, culture and Ranger pride.

I believe that art inspires, records history, and creates connections between people regardless of their differences. For this reason, I value strong community partnerships and am always looking for ways that students can make a difference in the community through the arts.  I have created the Community Art Club to help me achieve this mission.

Throughout my time at Lake Region, my students have competed in various art shows and competitions state and nationwide in which we have been recognized for various awards.   We hope to continue this trend in the upcoming years.
